Super Simple Vegetarian Sushi! 🍣

Sushi: Traditional Japanese dish of prepared rice with a variety of ingredients (raw seafood and vegetables)


Kappa + Kani Maki: Sushi roll made with Japanese cucumber & vegetarian crab sticks encased in sushi rice and dried seaweed.


Kappa Uramaki Iri Goma: Sushi roll made with Japanese cucumber and dried seaweed encased in sushi rice and covered with toast sesame seeds.



INGREDIENTS (for 2 px):

  • Japanese sushi rice (cooked)

  • Dried seaweed (nori)

  • 1 Japanese cucumber

  • 8 pcs Vegetarian crab sticks

  • Mayonnaise

  • White sesame seeds

  • Sushi rolling mat



INSTRUCTIONS:


1. Kappa + Kanna Maki Sushi. First, cut Japanese cucumber into long, thin pieces and cook the vegetarian crab sticks in a boiling water for at least 3 - 5 minutes. Then, place one big dried seaweed (nori) on a sushi rolling mat and spread cooked Japanese rice all over the dried seaweed. Make sure to cool down your rice for a bit before put it on the dried seaweed otherwise it will shrink. Put the sliced cucumber and vegetarian crab stick in the middle and top with some mayonnaise.

2. Roll using sushi rolling mat (going upwards).

3. Place it on a cutting board and cut into 4 pcs.

4. Kappa + Kanna Maki Sushi is done! Set aside.



5. Kappa Uramaki Ira Goma. Firstly, toast the white sesame seeds on a dry skillet (do not add oil). Heat over medium heat for about 3 minutes until golden and fragrant. Then, cut Japanese cucumber into long, thin pieces. Set aside. Place half portion of big dried seaweed (nori) on a sushi rolling mat and spread cooked Japanese rice all over the dried seaweed. Make sure to cool down your rice for a bit before put it on the dried seaweed otherwise it will shrink.

6. Flip it over and place some cucumber in the middle.

7. Roll using sushi rolling mat (going upwards).

8. Place it on a cutting board and cut into 4 pcs. Then apply toast sesame seed all over the surface.

9. Put some mayonnaise on top and serve!

Kappa Uramaki Ira Goma Sushi is done!
